Painting classes at Hutchins Street Square

Mixed Media Classes are on going every Wednesday 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm

"cherries"

We painted cherries on paper using acrylic paints. We started by drawing the cherries then going over them with a black sharpie marker, the kids were to paint the paintings covering the whole paper but, not covering the black marker.  After the painting was dry,  We painted the whole thing with black India ink!
We decided one minute was enough waiting to wash the ink and uncover the painting underneath.

The marker lines are now covered with the ink.

Whimsical giraffes

We started with white paper.  The kids painted the background with acrylics.  We drew the giraffes with pencil outlined with black oil pastel then filled in with soft pastels.
Adorable!

"If you are feeling Blue--
try painting yourself another color"

Acrylic painting in bright colors.
Printing with found objects, in this case it was an empty tomato paste can. We had different color acrylic paint in small paper plates.  The children dipped the cans in black paint first, made their prints, let it dry then came back and filled the circles with colors of their choice.

This art piece was done by a six year old.  Using acrylic paint for the outline, oil pastels for the flower petals, leaves, and center and watercolor for the background.

"Some people look for a beautiful place
others make a place beautiful"

Acrylic painting on canvas board.
Classes at Hutchins Street Square are going great!  This was the project for the month of March.
This beautiful painting was done by a 9 year old.

We started with a sketch.  I gave the kids examples of vases to use.

We picked the colors we were using.  Originally we were going to paint the background black.
A black background was too dark so the kids picked different colors.

First the kids drew the vase, flowers, and table then  filled with acrylic paint.

The kids used their fingers to add detail to the background,  painting with both hands at the same time!

The last thing they did is sign their name and they were done with another masterpiece.

This painting was done by a 6 year old.

At my studio

This painting is called Nicollette
this is a sketch of face.  Its hard to see.
I used acrylics.

I clean my brush on the sides.

I was not happy with her hair color.

I changed her hair color to black.  I like it better but, I'm not happy with her hair.

I changed her hair and I think I am finally happy with her.

This is a floral I painted on canvas board.  painting florals is my favorite pastime, this one was fun to paint.
I used acrylics my favorite medium.  Painted the vase and flowers.  Painted the table and the background was the last thing to paint the at the very end I splattered white paint all over the painting.  Done.

One day, you'll be just a memory for some people.  Do your best to be a good one.

The painting classes are going great!  The children are having a great time and working hard.  The biggest problem is stopping to take pictures of work completed but, here are a few to share.

Oil pastel on black construction paper. The following works of art were done by six year old children.
First they drew the parrot with the oil pastels then they blended the beak with their fingers, added leaves and filled the background with blue pastels.

On this project the six year old children worked with acrylic and paper.
First they painted the background with blue and white acrylic paint then added paper cutouts of birds on a branch and added detail. They turned out adorable!
