Logic will get you from A to B
imagination will take you everywhere
Albert Einstein

This is the tempura painting we worked on last week.
This was done by an eight year old.
It's a rainy summer day with a door that leads to an underground home.  It was covered with india ink then washed away.  Leaving as much india ink you want behind.

This owl was done by a 14 year old.  Every feather was carefully painted without touching the next feather.
When she added the ink everything that was not painted white becomes black and every feather is now outlined with the ink.

She did a beautiful job!

Here is a before and after sample of a tempura batik technique

You can control the look that makes you happy.  Simply by the of length of time you leave the ink to remain on the painting before rinsing off, or the amount of ink you remove but, it's always exiting to see what you   end up with.

To draw you must close your eyes and sing.
Pablo Picasso

We are working on a Batik painting this week.
The kids first decided what they wanted to draw.  They drew over their drawing with a sharpie marker then painted with tempra paint without touching the lines.  That can be tricky when there is a lot of detail, especially when you are a six year old.

They did such a great job.  Next week we are going to paint the whole thing with India ink!
It is scary and exiting at the same time! The results are fabulous.  I will post the finished paintings next week.

Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone.

Pablo Picasso

At the beginning of the year I made a to do list, I must confess I have not done all of them.
Like cleaning the garage.  Only the fun stuff, like spending time with my friends, my sisters and my family.  The list keeps growing because I am getting ready for the Lodi Streeet Fair
Sunday May 5th.
I would like to paint on wood, make some more jewelry. I need to make display pieces for my jewelry and so much more and I only have fourteen days!

From my studio

I just ordered Dr. Ph. Martin's watercolors from DickBlick.com.  This is where I purchase 90% of my art supplies the other 10% at Hobbie Lobby. I like to order something new to try every time I place an order well, I need to place an order for canvases soon so, I have to see what else looks interesting to try.

I painted wet on wet on the tea cup and the background.  The table cloth was painted wet on dry.

"Every child is an artist.  The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."

Kids-n -Canvas

 First Saturday of each month

We painted sunflowers this month.  This class is offered only once a month and we have such a great time.
It is a step by step class but, the kids have the choice to use different colors and add their own personal touches to make it their own.
This child signed his name on the leaves, secretly.  Nobody knows it is there but he, myself, and now you.
Painting in these classes make me feel young at heart.  Which reminds me,  I am adding a Kids at heart-n-canvas class for adults next month.  May 4th 2013.
you can register at www.activenet.active.com/lodipandrhss

Here the child is signing right on the stem of the flower.

I have a student who has requested we paint a pyramid next month.  He brought me a picture with a pyramid, a sunset and two silhouettes of men riding camels.  It's going to be fabulous!

"I dream my paintings, then

 I paint my dreams"

Van Gough
This was painted by one of the children  in our mixed media class.
We used acrylics on paper.  We used different shades of green, covered the whole paper.  Then
used negative painting to paint the pear.
Using different colors we painted everything that did not look like a pear. The kids did such a great job.
